SEO is the act of maximizing your site’s performance and increasing your ability to generate targeted traffic. If you can increase your site’s traffic it stands to reason that increased sales will follow. It is understood that a web site that is not properly optimized will surely fail. There are many SEO optimization professionals to choose from. Most of these companies offer services to help you receive traffic from Goggle, Yahoo and Bing.

The number one job of a SEO company is to design a web marketing campaign that includes off site strategies as well as on site optimization. This involves applying several techniques to the site itself while using strategies that are applied on other web sites. Both of these techniques are important to your web sites growth and survival. With out them it is impossible for a web site to succeed.

With on page optimization several elements are considered such as; Meta descriptions, titles, headlines, sub-headlines and key words. The search engines spiders review all of these elements and determine your site’s relevancy in terms of a search engine results page. Off page optimization is a little different. But both are needed. Off page involves finding respected web sites and creating a link to your site.

A professional SEO company can take care of this for you. As I mentioned, these types of issue are extremely important to your sites success. Thus, it is crucial that you choose the right SEO Company to perform these tasks for you. Not every SEO company is capable of providing all of the much needed steps to site optimization.

A good SEO company should be able to provide a strong campaign for your site. This will include key word research, a solid back link campaign, on site optimization, and possibly pay per click and other types of advertisements.

There are many of these companies online. With a little time and patience you can research these companies and decide who to choose based on different factors. You should always consider reputation, clients, skill level, back links to their own site and check how well their own site performs in a search result. Make sure that you research every company and take as much time as needed before settling on one company. Your site’s success may depend on it.

SEO Risks

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Despite the fact that search engine optimization is considered very effective for traffic and useful for building a business, you must educate yourself on the risks involved. If you take the needed time to properly educate yourself you can avoid unwanted consequences. Proper education will also help you determine what sorts of techniques will work best for your targeted market and thus you will be in a better position to provide them the quality and services they are looking for. Consider these things:

What types of risks are involved?

It is important that you understand all possible risks involved so that you are better armed to protect you and your business. What is your level of expertise? If you have any type of experience this may help you to avoid any possible stumbling blocks that may be encountered. If you are familiar with these obstacles you have a better chance of avoiding them. Take note of your experiences from the past and decide what is valuable.

Black Hat or White Hat?

Black hat techniques can put you and your web site at risk. You could lose credibility for your site and worse- you could find your site banned. Many sites and webmasters have been banned by search engines due to abuse of certain SEO techniques. Some will tell you that keyword stuffing still yields results. This won’t improve visibility but will render your efforts useless.

On the other hand, White hat techniques can be much more productive and ideal in that they will add credibility to your site and therefore provide long-term visibility. Your targeted audience will be more able to relate to your site and content if you follow search engine guidelines and rules. It will take time to reach the top of the search results but it will be well worth it.

Other risks involved

A good search engine ranking takes time and effort. The rewards you receive are not always proportionate to the work involved. You may find that it is easy for some webmasters to achieve good results while it may take you much longer.

Although unethical approaches to traffic building may bring immediate results, they won’t last. Your site will not be seen as credible or reliable if you use un-ethical methods to get their attention. If you follow the appropriate guideline you will boost reputation.

Be sure to keep up to date with what your audience is looking for by monitoring discussion groups and always listen to what other experts are saying.

Off-Page Optimization Basics

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

One of the first things that you should consider when developing your site is search engine optimization. Make sure you take the time to research this effectively. Choosing the wrong keywords to optimize your site could result in catastrophe.

It used to be much easier for a search engine to find your site relevant. Back then all you needed to do for a search engine to recognize you was to build a site geared for the right key phrases. If you placed your key phrases in your title, Meta description and several places in the body of the page your site would do well with less effort than what it takes today.

Off page site optimization requires several key elements to boost your rankings. The most important factor to increase search engine awareness of your site involves inbound linking, or getting popular sites to link to you.

If you plan an off site optimization campaign well it could mean the difference between being listed at #1 or at # 4, 567. Off-page optimization through inbound links simply consist of factors such as:

• How many sites are linking to you
• The importance of the sites that link to you
• Anchor text used in the link that points to your site
• How many links the site linking to your has
• The type of site that is linking to you
Most of the tried and true off page optimization techniques still work. It is still effective to get key word rich links from directories and other types of sites that allow you to leave a link.

Also, blog commenting is still an effective form of off page optimization provided that you don’t spam the blogs. If you want your link to stay on the blog you have to provide value in your comments and make sure that your comment is related to the post. Hence, it is wise to post on blogs that cover topics that you know something about.

Furthermore, article submission can be used rather effectively for off page optimization. It is not complicated and it will help with your site’s rank. One of the biggest benefits is that the article topic is your choice. Therefore, you have some level of control in your off page site optimization. You can include a very relevant link to your site within your article’s resources box.

Off page optimization is important but it is not the only factor to having a successful web site. If you build an email list and keep your readers entertained and informed- you will find success in the time it takes you to achieve a good strong search engine ranking.

4 Tips to Raise Your Rankings

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Your search engine rankings are crucial to your website’s success…but I’m sure as a webmaster you already knew that. Unfortunately, for the 65% of other webmasters not up to date on the importance of search engine optimization, but who rather lucked out with aged domains and content during the “dot com” boom, new tips and strategies in the realm of SEO have allowed budding websites to surpass these websites seemingly overnight.

Whether you’re operating an outdated website or you’re just getting started, there are a few basic SEO tips that you can implement in order to boost your website’s rankings:
Start Writing Fresh, Relevant, and Keyword Optimized Content

Your website’s content plays a vital role in your search engine ranking. But not just any ‘ole content! When optimizing your website, it is important that you have plenty of keyword optimized content on your website that provides your readers and search engines with what they’re looking for. Begin your article writing by doing your research beforehand. Compile a keyword list that not only includes your main keyword, but related keywords as well to steer search engines in the right direction when it comes time to appropriately index your content.
Keyword Optimized Domains Can Give You a Big Boost

Did you know that by simply including one or all of your keywords into your website’s address, you can give your website the boost it needs in search engine results? While many businesses go after choosing memorable or “catchy” domain names, including at least one of your keywords into your URL is a great way to help improve your rankings over time as you work on other off-page SEO factors.

Interlinking Still Works

Have you ever wanted to give your website and its inner pages a boost, but were unsure how to go about it? Did you know that by simply creating a links to other related content on your page as well as to your homepage, you can strengthen your domain as whole. Consider it an “internal link wheel” of sorts.

Don’t Overlook Title & Header Tags

One of the most overlooked on-page SEO factors that webmasters neglect is to optimize the title and header tags on their pages. Title tags tell a reader what your website is about. Additionally, they tell search engine spiders what to display when your page is indexed. Header tags, also referred to as H1, H2, H3, and even H4 tags are not only a great way to distinguish your content visually, but they contain great search engine food for spiders who look for keywords in key areas such as your header and title tags.

If you can master these four basic tips when performing basic SEO on your website, you can ensure that your website will continue to rise in rankings overtime.

Effective Keyword List – #2

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Once you begin to create content for your website it is important that you find a delicate balance between appealing to your readers and search engines. When you appeal to your readers, writing relevant and even catchy content is important. However, when you’re writing for search engines, keyword optimized content is crucial.

So how to you find out which keywords will work best for your article? In short, this entails developing an effective keyword list.

How to Choose the Proper Keywords

Choosing the right keywords for your content is not as simple as brainstorming words off the top of your head. Instead, you must take into consideration factors such as keyword competition and search volume to ensure that they keyword you’re going after is viable.

Let’s say for example you were developing a keyword list for a luxury yacht website. The ideal buyer in search of a luxury yacht would no doubt type in keywords such as: “yacht” or “luxury yacht.” However, if you were to write an article focusing on these keywords, your ability to rank for them would be far too competitive given how general these keywords are.

Fortunately, you can still, overtime, rank for these keywords by first going after what is known as “long tail” keywords. Long tail keywords are keywords related to your main keyword, but typically consist of 3 or more words.

You can narrow down your keyword selection and build a longer list by focusing on longer-tail versions of your main keyword “luxury yacht.” For example, tackling on additional words such as “buy,” “best,” and “used,” or even adding on brand names, model numbers, specific cities, states, and zip codes is a great way to generate additional keywords for a more targeted list of keywords.

What to Do With Your List

Once you have a large enough list in hand, you now need to do what is known as a “refining” process. To do this, using popular keyword tools such as the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, WordTracker, or even Keyword Discovery can help you narrow your list down to those keywords which prove to have the most potential in terms of search volume.

Keywords that prove to have too few searches, or will rank poorly should be removed from your list.

After eliminating all unusable keywords, you can then prioritize your remaining keywords in those that show the most promise and for which you can easily rank. What you’ll end up with is a new keyword list to help you create a new targeted SEO campaign.

Building Backlinks

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Generating inbound links is important for increasing your search engine ranking.
Building backlinks can be a painstaking process that can often can take hours and even days, especially if you have a large number of sites to backlink.

Let’s examine the time involved;

  1. You are using one of the popular backlinking subscription packages that require you to create a profile at each of the sites for backlinking.
  2. Some of the packages provide the subscriber with 30 sites per month.
  3. It is usually advised that you backlink no more than 2 sites per profile.

If you are fast, this can take as little as three hours for two sites.
Now let’s imagine that you have 75 sites to backlink.
The time involved could total 80 hours. That’s the equivilent of 2 work weeks.
On top of that, most often these sites become ineffective because there are so many subscribers adding backlinks that the webmasters shut down access for setting up new accounts and profiles.

What is SEO?

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

SEO stands for search engine optimization.

It is the method of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “organic” search results as opposed to other forms of search engine marketing.

SEO is also considered an effective long term marketing approach that can provide consistent traffic over long periods of time.

Optimizing a site through the use of proper title tags, original and unique content, and carefully chosen keywords will help to propel a site in search engine results for those keywords.

Another important aspect of SEO is pagerank.

What is pagerank?

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page, co-founder of Google.
It is used by Google, whereby the search engine assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set.
Backlinking from sites that hold a higher pagerank will assist with a sites SEO, as links from higher PR pages are believed to be more valuable.

What is backlinking?

Search engines often use the number of backlinks that a website has as one of the most important factors for determining that website’s search engine ranking.
Google’s description of their PageRank system, for instance, notes that Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B.
Backlinking is a valuable component of  SEO and all serious approaches for a good backlinking campaign should be considered.
